Prevent Muscle Breakdown with a Protein-filled Breakfast!

Wanna lost fat?? Maintain your muscle! Amino acids (AA's) are the essential building blocks for the muscles. After fasting for 8+ hours, you need to replenish your amino acids or your body will go straight for your muscles to get the AA's it needs for energy.

Here's an idea for a yummy breakfast or midday snack with over 15 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber. The Nutrition Facts posted include a medium sized Fuji apple.

Almond Butter Apple Dip

1/2 Cup Fage 0% Total Plain Greek Yogurt
1Tbsp Almond Butter
Cinnamon to your liking
1 apple

Enjoy :)

You can add bit of honey or other sweetener if you need, but the sweetness of the apple should be enough!
Do you have any other delicious, sustainable dips you like?? Please post!!

  1. Mmm! Looks delish! I'm trying this tomorrow. What are some other great ways to get lean protein in the morning? I feel like I'm narrowed to peanut butter with oatmeal or eggs with wheat toast. What are other "breakfast-y" proteins?

  2. Hi Katie! If you have protein powder, putting a scoop in your oatmeal works great! Vanilla protein with cinnamon and some almond milk tastes absolutely amazing. I've also experimented with some wholesome baked goods that I add whey protein powder to that taste pretty good! I'll post them tomorrow. In the mean time, here are a few other options:

    Cottage Cheese with some fruit

Egg white frittatas (pretty easy...you just cook whatever vegetables you want in a skillet, add your egg whites, and put it in the oven for about 20 minutes)

Adding some cottage cheese to your scrambled eggs is a tasty little mix up too!

Hemp Hearts are an amazing super food I have just recently found and started using. They kind of look like Quinoa, but have a bit more of a nutty texture. You can sprinkle them on cereal, yogurt, smoothies, etc. They have 10 grams of protein in only 3 Tablespoons!! They are also rich in Omega 3 and 6, important in preventing heart disease :) I just bought mine at Costco.
